Choosing a WordPress Theme Framework Based on Content Type
Clarification of this tweeted question below.
The question (2-part):
a) Should a website’s content type be a factor in choosing a WP Theme Framework? (i.e. an experienced user might suggest a different theme framework for each of the sites below based on the type of content it focuses on.)
b) If so, which WordPress theme framework is recommended [criteria: flexibility & efficiency] for developing sites containing the following types of content?
The three sites in development are:
- A geographically organized business directory. Each business exists as a WP post object.
- An eCommerce site using the WP-ecommerce plugin.
- A real estate listing site organized geographically. Where each individual property exists as a WP post object.
Some Background:
The design (content output) and interaction with the WP core/db schema (content structure/storage) are already drawn up for each website, so the question stems from each frameworks ability to properly organize this type of data within the context of a WP theme.
Another important consideration is the frameworks ability to make logical use of the new WP 2.9 features. I hope this is an easy choice for an experienced user of these frameworks, but I only have thorough experience with Thesis, which inherently distorts much of the standard WordPress template structure.
Better Themes | An Overview:
Some powerful WP theme frameworks have been launched by the WP community over the past few years. Without much experience using them, I’m hoping that the authors themselves might even chime in here. By recent downloads, the top three WP frameworks are Thematic by Ian Stewart, Carrington by Alex King and Hybrid by Justin Tadlock.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
